Around DRiffield and the east riding

Moot Hill, Driffield - Probably not the meeting place that its name suggests. It is the site of a Norman motte and bailey castle. Excavations have also revealed the remains of a previous Roman occupation. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle suggests that this is also the site of the eighth-century Northumbrian palace of King Aldfrith. However, it is also claimed that he is buried in Little Driffield Church, but all attempts to find him there have failed.
